Herbs Herbal Supplements
Chinese Herbs and other Herbal Supplements are known to build and strengthen the body and have been used for thousands of years to help people feel better, have more energy and live longer. One very appealing quality of herbs and herbal therapy is the low risk of bad/adverse reactions or side effects, especially when compared to pharmaceutical drugs. However, one must use caution when taking any substance for medicinal purposes. As, too much of a good thing could prove a waste of money, or even worse, cause problems in and of themselves.
Herbal Medicine is very different from the approach we are used to in Western Societies. It is based on overall wellness as opposed to treating the symptom or symptoms after they arise. In Oriental medicine a doctor is often paid only when the patient is well, not sick. This practice would probably not be greeted with enthusiasm by western medical professionals. In fact, you will probably notice that any attention given to this subject by most Medical Doctors (MD’s), the FDA and the institutions they are affiliated with, claim that herbs, herbal remedies and homeopathic alternative treatments have little or no value and have never been scientifically proven to be of any benefit. Do they tell you that most modern Drugs and Pharmaceuticals have Herbal origins?
Today, we can purchase and use herbs in a variety of forms. The most familiar forms are individual herbs or combinations of dried, powdered herbs in capsule or tablet form. We also see bulk herbs sold to be made into teas and poultices. Herbs in liquid form are also available as beverages or sprays. Another use for liquefied herbs is to be made into aroma therapy scents. The difference in the form factor of the herbs available is, quality, concentration/potency and absorption/bio-availability.
There are thousands of Herbs that speak to specific as well as overlapping wellness issues. Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba and St. Johns Wort, Saw Palmetto, and the list goes on.
I'll be writing mor on this in the near future...
